It is Labor Day weekend, one last hurrah for those late, carefree, sultry summer nights that will soon vanish to cold, all –nighters spent cramming in college work. Or just binge-watching Netflix, having a life, etc.
It’s hard to say goodbye. We had so many memories; Gorgeous, late nights that the golden sun was always out while I was spending too much money on fruity drinks at bars
near the beach. Wearing denim shorts with no regrets, not having a planner full of homework. Looking back, it’s hard not cry, remembering my once bronze glow that is starting to fade. It’s almost as aching as a Lana Del Rey song.
That’s why I am here to help get through those Summertime Sadness blues.
Although it was so easy wearing shorts and skirts, all girls can rejoice. It’s finally leggings time.
Time to forget the constrictions of a denim waistband and have the freedom of our long-lost, comfy, leg-hugging best friend. It’s a win-win. Plus, you can still wear your favorite, worn-in summer shorts with a long sleeve shirt or comfy sweater.
As for your summer dresses, try them with a little jacket or boots. You can wear patterned tights or ones with lace. Go all out!
If you are feeling edgy, why not a black bicker jacket and heeled boots because nobody can tell you not to?
Want to let your inner bombshell shine? It’s time to embrace vampy colors.
If you are like me and have been rocking red lipstick most of summer because you finally committed to wearing the color and can’t stop, then this isn’t much of a change.
There are so many options from blue-based cranberry to retro bright red and deep plum. It can be sad to say goodbye to fruit-punch, hot pink lips and the bronzers of summer, but if you are pale, embrace it! This is the time of year that everyone (unless you go toTanatopia or whatever it’s called) can really be proud of their natural skin tone. Try a deep red nail polish or even dark plum, just be sure to keep your nails short!
Once the cool, cozy weather comes in, it’s time to redecorate. Add a bunch of candles to your room and blankets.
You know, the ones you threw off during summer when you thought you couldn’t take the heat anymore. Now is the time to open the windows and curl up with a good book (or Netflix) and enjoy.
If you want to get into the Halloween spirit, watch your favorite Halloween movies. Or Twilight. That’s still technically a horror movie and will bring you back all those fun ninth grade memories.
Invest in pumpkin/apple anything! Retailers know that if it has pumpkin on the label, we can’t help ourselves. Even pumpkin or apple cinnamon spice air freshener is a must have.
Remember that even though we will always remember those fun summer nights fondly, fall has so much to offer. Go and celebrate the last days of summer and find solace that it will soon be acceptable to wear leggings in public. You will be dancing just like Lana again.
